IGF-1 DES is another synthetic analog of IGF-1, distinct from LR3. “Des” refers to the deletion of the first three amino acids from the N-terminus of the native IGF-1 molecule. Like LR3, this modification was developed for laboratory research purposes: removing those amino acids significantly reduces the molecule’s binding affinity to IGF-binding proteins, which increases its potency and shortens/alters its activity profile compared to native IGF-1 (DES is generally considered more potent but shorter-acting than LR3, due to differences in how each modification affects clearance).

Research background:

  • Like IGF-1 LR3, its main legitimate use is as a laboratory research reagent in cell culture and in vitro studies, where researchers want a more potent, less-buffered IGF-1 signal without interference from binding proteins.

  • It’s been used in academic research on muscle cell proliferation, growth signaling pathways, and related basic science — not in human clinical development.

  • There is no human clinical trial data supporting any therapeutic use; it was never developed as a drug candidate for people.

Important caveats:

  • Not FDA-approved for any human use; sold strictly as a research chemical, “not for human consumption.”

  • Same underlying safety concern as LR3: because it evades the body’s normal IGF-binding-protein regulation, it doesn’t have the usual physiological “brakes,” which matters for anyone considering off-label human use (risk of hypoglycemia, uncontrolled growth-signaling effects).

  • Known in bodybuilding contexts as a muscle-growth compound, but again this use is unsupervised, off-label, and unsupported by human data.

  • Banned by WADA and most professional sports anti-doping organizations, same as LR3.
